从词源上来看, entice 一词源自古法语 enticier (煽风点火、激发、煽动),最早于13世纪末进入英语,也曾拼作 intice ,则是用来表示“诱使、诱惑、引诱、怂恿”,侧重指巧妙且娴熟地通过提供快乐或好处来唤起希望或欲望,从而吸引或诱惑某人做某事。比如:
别处丰厚的薪水诱使人们辞职另谋高就。
People are being enticed away from the profession by lucrative salaries elsewhere.
